FeaturedCommentsSo I was reading your comic, and I was noticing how positive everyone is about your art. I've read how it is adorable, uplifting and generally warm fuzzy inducing. Your characters all seem very positive people as well. Roomie is so very giving sexually, she cares and lives to make life a party. Lillian may be reclusive, but she seems equally generally happy and accepting. Richard and Ramona have a ying and yang quality, and they support each other in a very understated way. They all seem to lead what some conservative majorities would consider "alternative lifestyles". All in all a very happy cast.
But you can also see the underlying struggles in these characters. Roomies who doesn't seek deep intimacy nor overtly shows the need for it. Lillian's constant need to escape reality through sleep. The alienation from their parents felt by the twins. They all see the need to be human and have weaknesses, but none of them feel the need to address them directly. It's as though the comic is a sanctuary for those who feel like they are an outsider. Yes, there is the struggle, but life is full of that, why keep reinforce it. Your side story of Merlin and the knight has a self discovery and acceptance tone to it. Interesting coming from Lillian who similarly avoids overt committal to any relationships or interactions. My question is were you consciously trying to show through your comic that there is a place where you are accepted and safe? If it doesn't exist ideally, it can exist in the comic. Then in creating this comic, you've created a sanctuary where it is safe and then in time better to address difficult issues in a safe positive light. Like when Lillian and Roomie visit Woc. They never say what the issue is, just that it will reveal itself in time. I just really enjoyed the comic, and couldn't help suggest an overarching theme to it. The darker sides of the characters are kind of hidden away, barely hinted, or just left alone for exploration later. The comic is full of people who accept and respect one another. It is a bit ideal on my part, and yet when I think of all the wonderful friends I have, I can't help but feel it's a world that can exist for everyone.
But yes, there are "darker" themes to the comic, although I consider them rather as lessons in life Love your art! Your art really has personality and character. Your characters make me laugh! There's a lot of amazing artists nowadays but few have humour like you do. Keep it up!
